Choosing a Product: Common Questions

How Retractable Screens, Sun Blinds, Roll Shutters and Pergolas differ, and which suits which problem.

What is the difference between a Retractable Screen and a Roll Shutter?

A Retractable Screen is mesh. It keeps insects out, cuts UV and glare, and you can still see through it — it is for making an outdoor space usable. A Roll Shutter is solid insulated aluminum. It blocks light completely, resists forced entry and shields glass from storm debris — it is for protecting an opening. Retractable Screens open a space up; Roll Shutters close it down.

Retractable Screens or Sun Blinds — which do I need?

If insects are the problem, Retractable Screens. If the problem is low sun in your eyes and heat on the furniture, a Sun Blind is the more direct answer, because it is designed for solar and glare control rather than filtering airflow. Plenty of patios end up with both, on different sides, because morning and afternoon are different problems.

What should I use for a covered patio we want to use more?

Retractable Screens on the open sides are the usual starting point: they make the space usable in the evening when insects arrive, and take the edge off afternoon sun depending on the mesh you pick. If there is no roof yet, a Pergola comes first and the Retractable Screens fit to it afterwards.

What should I use for security or storm protection?

Roll Shutters. Retractable Screens are not a security product and are not intended to be. For ground-floor windows and doors, patio doors, storefront glazing or a property left empty for stretches, Roll Shutters are the product that does that job.

Is everything motorized?

Motorized operation is standard across the range and runs from a wall switch, a handheld remote or your phone, with sun and wind sensors available. Manual operation is offered where a motor is not wanted or where power is not practical to run.

Can products be combined on one property?

Most projects do. A typical combination is Retractable Screens enclosing the patio, Roll Shutters on ground-floor windows and bedrooms, and Sun Blinds where low sun is the issue. Because everything is measured and built per opening, products can also be added in stages rather than all at once.

Do you supply commercial projects as well as homes?

Yes. Alongside residential work we install commercial Roll Shutters on storefronts, restaurants, schools and warehouses, and Retractable Screens on commercial patios and hospitality spaces.

What warranty comes with them?
